Southend Surveyor

What to do after your survey report

Turn survey findings into practical repair priorities, specialist checks and legal enquiries before purchase.

Read the report as a whole

Start with the principal findings, then read the detailed sections and limitations. The significance of a defect depends on its context, not simply the colour or label attached to it.

Discuss uncertainty

Contact the surveyor about wording or recommendations you do not understand. Ask which matters need action before commitment and which relate to ongoing maintenance.

Follow through on investigations

Where further specialist advice is recommended, obtain it before relying on assumptions about repair cost or severity. A visual survey cannot answer every concealed or technical question.

Separate documents from defects

Your solicitor may need to obtain permissions, certificates, guarantees or management information. Missing records and observed physical problems should be followed up through the appropriate routes.

Use reliable repair information

For material repairs, obtain suitably scoped quotations. The purchase decision should be based on the evidence and your circumstances, rather than an expectation that the seller must reduce the price.
